RUSTIC OSU ROOM/OSU HOME OFFICE

Now that it is football season, I think it is only right to share a few shots of my Ohio State themed home office! This is a continuation of my previous Rustic Home Office post.

I bought the wood frame around Jesse Owens from Hobby Lobby, and painted the edges with red paint.
I wanted an office organizer from Pottery Barn but I made a cheaper version on the wall in the corner provided by big lots and hobby lobby.
This rustic mirror from Home Goods was perfect for my theme. And the rustic red ledges from Hobby Lobby were a great addition to hold my medals, certificates and other OSU keepsakes.

Love my glass Ava desk from Pottery Barn. Chair from Marshalls.
I live by these words, sign from Big Lots
I bought this custom made piece from www.theohiostatewindowguy.com. Go Bucks!

QUICK FIX WITH MASON JARS

Decorating my dining room meant getting rid of this thing. The shape isn't bad but it looked boring and ugly.

I thought it would be a great idea to create a chandelier with mason jars from scratch. But as I kept looking at the fixture I realized I may be able to simply replace the lamp shades with mason jars.

You can get mason jars just about anywhere. I bought 5 at the 99 cent store and they fit like a glove!

A new chandelier for 5 bucks!!!

DIY REFURBISHED DRESSER

I took this old out dated dresser from my parents house and thought it would be a great idea to refurbish it and put it in my guest room. I wanted to add a pop of color and thought coral would be the best color to go with my beach theme. I chose Sherwin Williams Ardent Coral out of the four options below.

I took the drawers out and the hardware off. I placed the screws from the knobs back in the holes so they wouldn't close up as I painted over them.

Instead of sanding the furniture I used two coats of wood/furniture primer

 Painted the drawers after.

After I applied two coats of the coral (The sample size from Sherwin Williams of 1 quart for $5) I purchased 12 knobs from Hobby Lobby. Luckily they were 50% off because I needed 12! I couldn't find 12 of the exact same knobs, but I did find 2 knobs that were the same color but just different shapes...

I also sprayed 2 thin coats of polyurethane to give it a little shine

DIY CHINA CABINET FOR $15

About 5 years ago I inherited china that had been passed down from generation to generation and I finally made a home for it while furnishing my dining room.
I'm not a big fan of large china cabinets, but wanted something more open and rustic to showcase my dishes. As I searched the internet for ideas I fell in love with the unit shown below. I found one identical to this one for $399 at World Market. Since that was far outside of my price range I planned on putting my idea on hold and just focusing on the rest of the dining room.
About a week after I stopped looking for storage units I came across my neighbors front yard on my way home. I noticed a moving truck and several pieces of furniture in their trash.
I picked this storage unit out of her trash (with her permission of course) and carried it over to my house.
Of course I didn't realize I hadn't taken a before picture until half way through priming it.
These doors were attached to the bottom of the unit, and there were two shelves at the top, the whole unit was a cherry wood color. Instead of sanding it down and painting it I used primer then two coats of Sherwin Williams Summer White paint. With their 30% off special I was able to get a quart of paint for $5!

I first wanted to paint the back, then thought it would be a neat idea to find a pretty fabric to make it pop. I found this beautiful fabric from Hobby Lobby. Their 40% off coupon always comes in handy

!

I accessorized it with a vintage bottle, storage basket and sea shells I bought from home goods a year ago.

The furnishings on top I bought from Home Goods a year ago, Vintage bottle on the bottom from Hobby Lobby and the storage basket from Pier 1.

All and all I spent $15 bucks to make this cabinet.(Spent just a little more in accessories but totally worth it!!!!!)

RUSTIC FINDS FOR HOME OFFICE!!!

Here are a few affordable rustic pieces I found and placed in my Buckeye Home Office!

I found this large wood sign at Big Lots for under 20 bucks! The theme for my room is of course Ohio State (scarlet and grey) but I saw this and could not leave without it!

I found this rustic red ledge from Hobby Lobby. I originally bought 4 of them and was going to build some sort of bookshelf on the wall.  When that didn't work I found that instead of books it would be best to put some of my medals, trophies and OSU mementos on top.

B for Bever-leigh! Found this little sign at Home Goods for under $15!

Another HOME GOODS find. This red sign and the rustic bulletin/cork board below it were both in the clearance section at a Home Goods I visited in Baltimore. Spent less than 20 bucks for the pair!

Another sign from Home Goods! I had to keep my space inspirational!!!!!!!!

MY ALL TIME FAVORITE HOME GOODS FIND. I saw this mirror and it was the perfect combination of rustic and Ohio State. In the package it kind of had the shape of the Block-O.

Love this mirror....it was another splurge. It's about 2x3 in size and was on sale for $69.99 from $129.99!

I found this chair at Marshalls in the Clearance section for $99.99 discounted from $129.99

Looks great in my office!

Stop by next week to see the rest of my Ohio State Home Office! (This Ohio State sign was custom made by www.Theohiostatewindowguy.com)

PATIO MAKEOVER!!!!

Who knew patio furniture was just as expensive as living room furniture?!?!?! I refuse to pay outrageous prices for furniture that will literally collect dust and undergo every element nature brings. So I transformed my backyard the most affordable way I could, take a look...

The gazebo I bought from Sears. It is a "bay window" gazebo that was originally priced at  $699 but I caught it on sale for $499. (was also able to put it on layaway for 8 weeks to soften the blow) Totally worth it in 100+ degree weather!

This 5 piece occasional set included the bench seat, two chairs and coffee table. It was on sale at World Market (Cost plus) for $199. I'm not particularly fond of furniture sets but it ended up being the cheapest way to go, and I could still mix it up with different colored pillows from Home Goods(which all happened to be on clearance under $10 each) as well as the vintage "stackable" chairs I purchased from Tuesday Morning ($29.99 each).

I accessorized with Home Goods décor of course

Garden stools in any retail store/online store are going for $150 all the way up to $500(Yes I saw one for $500!! Of course it was beautiful but I have no idea why they are so expensive!!))I went to Home Goods one day determined to find a stool this exact color for an affordable price and they did not let me down. I got this on sale for under $60 bucks!
Another look at my vintage chairs...out of every thing those were the most talked about piece! The outdoor rug I purchased from  Rugsusa.com. It was originally $151 for 5x8 but they were running a 65% off sale and I was able to get it tax free for $52 with free shipping!!

Love my new backyard oasis!

DIY PILLOW COVERS FOR UNDER $5!!!!!

If you don't know by now I am in love with pillows!!!! Every time I decorate a space I end up wanting more/different pillows. I went online looking for outdoor pillows for my patio furniture and found a variety of pillows that had the word "BEACH' written on them. Instead of spending $35 to $40 for a pillow I thought I would make my own.

I replaced four pillows that came with my sofa with store bought pillows, and stashed them in the closet. I decided to make pillow covers for those. Recycling these pillows saved me $7 to $8 each on pillow inserts.

BURLAP!!! I went to Hobby Lobby specifically for burlap and they had many different colors. I chose tan and only spent $3.99 for 1 yard of fabric!

After measuring and cutting I had my mom sew it for me. (Eventually I will probably get a sewing machine because I have a feeling I will be making my pillows for now on)

I bought these stencils from Hobby Lobby for about 2 bucks, but the stencils ended up being two small for the large pillow so I took them back.....

I didn't like how the letters came out after printing them out off of the computer....So I decided to freehand the letters. I wanted the B and the H to be the same height and slightly larger than the other letters.

The paint I used was leftover Sherwin Williams paint Watery, the same paint I used for my powder room.

Loved the way it turned out. Just waiting for it to dry!

THIS PILLOW COVER COST ME LESS THAN $5!!!
