Before I moved in my house....

Before I show you how I started to decorate my room I thought I'd show you how I set the foundation. I figured I could only afford to furnish one room at a time and since its just me I figured I start with the one place I would spend most of my time...my master bedroom/sitting room. Before I moved in the house I wanted to make sure I got painting, windows and floors done in my room, before I even started moving in any furniture. Then I would decorate the room and finally move in. Below are pics of the transformation I did to my room. Although it wasn't cheap I shopped around and found the best deals for the services that were done.

I was standing in the sitting room taking this picture, this is how the master looked with that hideous carpet. I know some people love carpet but being out here in the desert and with my allergies I CANT TAKE IT!
Plus hardwood just looks so much better and adds value to your property.

This is how the room looked after my mom and I tore out the carpet. The salesman at the hardwood floor store said I could save a little money by tearing it out myself, and that's what I did. He advised me to cut small strips so it would be easy to roll and discard.

My room came with an ugly purple accent wall that I had to get painted over. The color I eventually went with was Cream from Sherwin Williams (you'll see later).

Before I got the walls painted I wanted to get my window casings (white borders) installed in all the windows in all the rooms upstairs. The carpenter charged me $75 per window, I had a total of 7 windows so it wasn't too bad. My parents thought I was crazy getting this done but I just love how it looks (of course got the idea from those makeover shows on HGTV)

Got the ugly carpet replaced with this rustic handscraped hardwood floors. For the longest time I wanted to go with Lumber Liquidators, but I found a place called Dream Home Flooring where the hardwood was just as affordable and the labor was cheaper. A lot of people go with Laminate because it is a little bit cheaper than the real thing but I'd rather spend a little more if it means adding more value to the house. Eventually I will get this wood throughout the whole house. I forgot the name of the wood but it was on sale for $3.99 sq/ft....WARNING if you are thinking about putting wood floors on your steps, just know IT IS NOT CHEAP! For the stair nose itself it can cost anywhere from $75-$100 EACH STAIR!!! I only had four(which is still a lot of money), two leading up to my bedroom and two leading down to my sitting room. But overall these floors were worth every penny!
